During a general anaesthetic, your anaesthesiologist will be monitoring your vital signs and ensuring a safe and comfortable peri-operative experience for you.
Safety aspects include, but are not limited to, ensuring your body receives enough oxygen via a breathing tube, intravenous fluids and medication via a cannula and physiological monitoring.
Post operative nausea, vomiting, pain and other negative experiences may be reduced by various medication and further monitoring in the recovery area.
Reducing such events may seem to address the patient’s post-operative comfort, but in reality, it’s closely related to safety, as reduced nausea, vomiting and pain allow for better post-surgical recovery.
